Buddhist Philosophy

The philosophy that underpins Hoa Nghiem Buddhist College's provision of an outstanding education is manifested in our Purpose, Focus, Spirit and Values as well as the four dimensions of 'Learning to Be' in the 21st century, all interconnected within our unique Systemic Learning Approach.

Through the daily practice of meditation and the teaching of Buddhist principles, our students learn to seek wisdom by looking and listening deeply, engaging fully in the present moment and taking responsibility for their thoughts and actions.

The Buddhist practice is a learning journey requiring the same inquiry mind that our students use to investigate any topic in any subject.

  • It challenges them to not take any concept or truth for granted, but to question, observe and experiment Buddhist principles as they practice in the fields of science and philosophy.
  • This introspective, open-mind and open-heart practice helps them to first see clearly in them then, in others.
  • It gives them the skill to let go suffering that usually biases our approach and understanding of the world as it makes us blind to the common good as well as our common humanity.
The Buddhist philosophy is embedded in every aspect of our students' learning journey. They learn to engage themselves in a path of introspective thinking and ethical choices that contributes to bring them understanding, acceptance to all and happiness.
