Nature Camps and Land-Based Learning
Hoa Nghiem Buddhist College emphasises learning in a real context. Naturally, this means taking students to different spaces where they can fully immerse themselves in authentic experiences where they can learn outside. For example, during their swim on a boat in Port Phillip Bay, students in years 3/4 and 5/6 encounter dolphins and seals, making them feel more aware of our inter-being relationship with nature.
Our various nature camps give students the opportunity to get closer to nature and develop their relationship with multiple species. The camps encourage them to understand the meaning of reverence for life, one of the principles of the Buddhist philosophy. Students are also introduced to survival skills, which helps build their self-confidence in the face of life's challenges.
Our educational intention, through immersive experiences in nature, is that students will be genuinely engaged and inspired by their local environment and take an active part in protecting it.
